| Explore CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) which works by targeting the major individual and environmental influences of behavioral change – school, family, community, policy and the children themselves. Its success lies in its coordinated, holistic approach to instilling healthy habits, reaching children through health education curriculum, child nutrition services, school physical education programs and by engaging families and community members through an on-site CATCH team. Over 20 NIH, CDC, and foundation funded studies have determined the positive impact of CATCH on children from preschool to 8th grade. The primary project goals are to implement the CATCH program in all Travis County schools, with additional support among for low-income schools, to decrease the prevalence of overweight children. Preliminary data have shown significant decreases in child obesity after one year of implementation. |
