Founded in 1931 and located in Park Ridge, Ill., the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) is the professional organization for more than 34,000 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs). On June 17, 2006, the AANA will officially celebrate its 75th anniversary as a professional association.
CRNAs are advanced practice nurses who personally administer 65 percent of all anesthetics delivered in the United States each year. They practice in every type of setting where anesthesia is available, and are the primary anesthesia providers in rural America, the military, and for labor and delivery.
The American Nurses Association is the only full-service professional organization representing the nation's 2.7 million registered nurses through its 54 constituent member nurses associations.
