Frequently Asked Questions

What is Grameen Health?

Grameen Health is Professor Muhammad Yunus' vision to establish a sustainable health system in Bangladesh that will serve the health needs of all Bangladeshis at low cost and high quality. Grameen Health aims to design low-cost, affordable health services for millions of the poorest of the poor in Bangladesh, especially women and children, and sustain these services thru social business. In addition to existing social business partnerships with Danone and Veolia, Grameen Health has recently announced partnerships with Pfizer, GE Healthcare, and Mayo Clinic. Grameen Health continues to gather more new and innovative partners committed to harness best practices to build sustainable business models that can meet the unmet health needs of the poor in Bangladesh.
The next step for Grameen Health is to build a medical school and teaching hospital. Though such a challenging and large-scale undertaking in any developing country usually calls for assistance from large foreign donors and foreign expertise, Professor Yunus feels that Grameen Health can serve Bangladeshi's best only if the seeds for such a system are planted by Bangladeshis themselves!

Why seek out Bangladeshi professionals in the United States?

Professor Yunus strongly believes that there is enough expertise, intellect, leadership, and capital within the successful expatriate Bangladeshi population in the United States to build, grow, and sustain Grameen Health for the service of all people of Bangladesh.
In that spirit, Professor Yunus is reaching out to Bangladeshi professionals across the United States who have been successful within their industries and communities, so that we may all unite to begin to build Grameen Health in ways we believe and understand will best fit the needs of the people of Bangladesh, especially the poor women and children.
The successful professionals within the Bangladeshi expatriate population in the U.S. can act as brain circulation instead of brain drain for Bangladesh, and become a strong support mechanism towards the development of the motherland.

What other activities will I be able to engage in if I RSVP for the gathering?
Participants at the Bangladeshi Professionals' Gathering will receive a complementary pass to the entire 3-day conference (a $2,995 value). You will have the opportunity to discuss their work and build relationships with a vast range of conference attendees including over 2,000 CEOs, senior executives and government officials from the largest employers, hospitals, health systems, health plans, pharmaceutical and biotech companies, institutional funders, and leading government agencies in the United States.
In addition, World Health Care Congress will also be hosting a unique conference-long Poster Session on innovative business models and enabling technologies that deliver radically affordable and sustainable health care in low-resource environments such as in developing countries.
