The application of Lean thinking methodology has been used to support process improvement in primary care and maximize providers’ time for patient-centered care and activities. Using Lean methods and tools, providers become engaged as “process owners” enabling them to build the capacity for change that’s necessary to allow them to redesign the processes and become an effective Patient-Centered Medical Home. As a result of attending this workshop, attendees will be able to apply lean thinking methods and tools, and understand how they can help a physician office build an adaptive reserve and the capacity for change.
Issues to be addressed include:
- What is Lean Thinking and how does it apply to health care?
- How has Lean Thinking been used to support primary care advancement toward a
Patient-Centered Medical Home?
- How do you measure the results of your efforts to transform your practice?
In this workshop, you will develop the tools needed to improve processes by:
- Learning the steps of a ‘Lean Cycle’
- Drafting a ‘Problem Statement’ and refining the scope of the problem to be addressed
- Practice drawing a Value Stream Map
- Evaluating approaches to implementing an improved future state
