The Medicare Stars rating system for Medicare Advantage health plans was developed in an effort to help Medicare beneficiaries understand the quality of care delivered by their plans and to drive quality improvement through consumer choice. Each fall, Medicare Advantage plans are evaluated on clinical quality and patient experience1 and given a rating of one to five stars. Plans with higher ratings could be presumed to be viewed more favorably by Medicare beneficiaries who are selecting a new plan.
