Philip R. Corsello, M.D., MHA, FCCP, is currently Medical Director of the Disease Management Program and Associate Professor, Pulmonary Division, Department of Medicine at National Jewish Medical and Research Center. He has been at National Jewish for the past 20 years, during which time he has been actively engaged in teaching and in the care and study of patients with respiratory disease. He is a longtime Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and, in 2003, was presented the Outstanding Service Award by The Department of Medicine. Dr. Corsello is a former chairman of the National Jewish Medical Executive Committee and a current member of the National Jewish Medical and Research Center IRB. He was a co-founder of the National Jewish Ethics Committee in 1993 and chairman of the committee from 1993-2001 and 2003-2004. He has written and collaborated on articles and book chapters on chronic pulmonary disease, asthma and disease management.

Byron Thomashow, M.D., is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Columbia University, an Attending Physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Medical Director of the Jo-Ann LeBuhn Center for Chest Disease on the Columbia campus of the New York-Presbyterian Hospital. He was one of the primary investigators in the National Emphysema Treatment Trial-a randomized trial of Lung Volume Reduction Surgery(LVRS) and the Medical Director of his institution’s LVRS program.He has been and remains an investigator in a number of other national clinical research trials in chronic lung disease. He is the co-chairman of the medical advisory council for the National Emphysema COPD Association (NECA)a COPD patient organization and serves on the board of the COPD Foundation a new COPD research organization.

David G. Tinkelman, M.D., Vice President, Health Initiatives and Medical Liaison, National Jewish Medical and Research Center, Online Content Editor, Journal of Asthma, became Vice President of Health Initiatives at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in 1995 and currently holds the academic title of Professor of Pediatrics at both National Jewish and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. His primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of strategies for business development, disease management initiatives, outcomes, managed care contracting, professional education and marketing efforts. As such, he is involved with the development, implementation and business strategies for many of the programs at National Jewish. Programs developed in Health Initiatives in the past years include disease management programs for several clinical areas, development of national telephonic smoking cessation programs, interactive Internet based educational programs, health care consulting services for health plans and employer groups, and outcomes assessment tools. He has been editor of the Journal of Asthma for the last ten years and has served on the editorial boards for several other journals. Dr. Tinkelman is author of more than 130 published scientific articles, scholarly reviews and book chapters.

John Walsh, President and Chief Executive Officer, Alpha-1 Foundation was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) in 1989. Learning there was no organized effort to promote research and find a cure for the disorder, he decided to dedicate his life’s work to this end. In 1995 he co-founded the Alpha-1 Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to providing the leadership and resources to increase research, improve health, promote worldwide detection, and find a cure for Alpha-1. He has been reappointed by the Secretary of Health and Human Services to serve a third term on the Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability. He is Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors of the National Health Council. He is chair of the American Thoracic Society Public Advisory Roundtable (PAR), and is the Presidential Appointee of the Board of Directors of the American Thoracic Society. Mr. Walsh is co-founder of the Plasma Users Coalition, is a member of the American Lung Association National Action Panel on Lung Disease, is on the Advisory Board of the Center for Genetic Research Ethics and Law (CGREL) at Case Western Reserve University, serves on the Executive Committee of the US COPD Coalition, and is a member of the COPD Foundation Board of Directors.
