Determining Optimum CFO Strategies For the Internet Economy

Provoking Actions
Defining Strategies
Predicting Trends
Thinking Globally

The role of the CFO and structure of the finance department is rapidly changing in response to their increasing responsibilities in determining corporate strategy, evaluating risks and ensuring value creation.

IT and the Internet are ensuring that the CFO increasingly ‘connected’ not just internally to business units but externally to investors, clients and suppliers.

As a result the CFOs must re-think their strategies and re-shape their department and corporate infrastructure in order to respond more effectively to these constituents and ensure an increased ROI.

"The use of corporate intranets to gather and disseminate information is generating returns on investment of better than 1000%."

The 1999 CFO Summit will evaluate drivers of change and determine the best-practice strategies that CFOs will need to implement in order to stay competitive. Furthermore specific sessions of the Summit will bring together CFOs and CEOs to focus on strategies for implementing change and driving growth and increasing share-holder value.

Who Will Be There?

CFOs, treasurers and finance directors from the world’s most dynamic companies, including Fortune & Global 2000, Fast-Growth and leading Emerging Market Corporations.

Participants will exchange experiences, learn from case studies and brainstorm new corporate finance strategies based on the impact of the Internet. Furthermore, bringing together CFOs and CEOs for parts of the Summit will facilitate a stimulating cross-fertilization of ideas.

Honorary Chairman: George P. Shultz, former US Secretary of State

Confirmed speakers for the 1999 Congress include:

  • Marc Andreessen, CTO, Netscape
  • Joyce Chang, Head of Emerging Market Research, Merrill Lynch & Co.
  • Daniel Case, Chairman & CEO, Hambrecht & Quist Group
  • Domingo Cavallo, Publisher, Forbes Global
  • Stanley Fischer, First Deputy Managing Director, IMF
  • Charles Frank, First VP, EBRD
  • Goran Lindahl, President & CEO, ABB
  • George Muoz, President, OPIC

Stimulating Format

The varied and dynamic program will stimulate creative business thinking:

  • Interactive panel debates on the critical issues of the day
  • Focused roundtable ‘think-tank’ sessions on specific challenges for CFOs
  • In-depth interviews with the world’s most successful corporate leaders
  • Networking and doing business in the Congress hospitality hub

Recurring questions

In order that the critical issues addressed in the summit are tied back to the core concerns of all CEOs, the following Recurring Questions will be asked by the Summit chairperson and moderators in order to synthesize value-added action plans that you can take away and implement.

  • Financial Organizational Structure – How do I reduce costs and improve efficiencies?
  • Enterprise Resource Planning – How do I evaluate and increase ROI?
  • Risk Management How do I improve risk evaluation and reduce risk management costs?
  • International Markets – How can I more accurately forecast the macroeconomics of emerging markets?
  • Investor Relations & Regulatory Governance – How do I capture and communicate better data?
  • Banking - Am I getting the best deal?
  • Y2K - Am I really ready for it?
