In July 1997 the Chairperson of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) asked Andrea Corcoran to establish its first Office of International Affairs. From October 1982, Ms. Corcoran was the Director of the Division of Trading and Markets after leaving private practice. She is a member of the New York, California and District of Columbia Bars and, in August 1988 and again in September 1996, she received a Presidential Distinguished Executive Rank Award in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments and contributions at the CFTC. Recently, she has been a principal architect of the Commission’s responses to the Barings collapse and the alleged manipulation of the copper market by Sumitomo.
