JONATHAN DARER, MD, MPH is Chief Innovation Officer for the Division of Clinical Innovation for Geisinger Health System. Leveraging data and electronic health record, he leads the design and implementation of clinical decision support tools resulting in improved care for patients with chronic conditions including chronic kidney disease, osteoporosis and heart failure as well as tools to improve inpatient care including reduced central line infections.

Jon currently serves as:
  • Clinical Director for the Clinical Decision Intelligence System (CDIS), the Geisinger enterprise data warehouse.
  • Co-Investigator for “OpenNotes,” a Robert Wood Johnson funded initiative to evaluate the impact of allowing patients to view primary care provider progress notes through MyGeisinger.
  • Co-Investigator on the newly obtained Medicare Imaging Demonstration Project.
Dr. Darer came to Geisinger from Kaiser Permanente where he led clinical content and decision support development. Dr. Darer’s practice areas include Urgent and Primary Care.

Dr. Darer received his bachelor’s degree cum laude in engineering from Harvard University and his medical degree from University of Connecticut Medical School. He completed his internship and residency at Oregon Health Sciences University, his fellowship in General Internal Medicine at John Hopkins University, School of Medicine, in addition to receiving his Masters of Public Health from John Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dr. Darer has also authored and co-authored several peer and non-peer reviewed articles.
