Marty Silverstein, MD, is a Senior Partner and Managing Director of The Boston Consulting Group and leads its global Health Care Practice. Beyond leading the practice, Marty consults to clients in most sectors of the health care industry, including managed care organizations, integrated delivery and hospital systems, biopharmaceutical manufacturers, and retail pharmacies. He is based in Boston.
Within health care services, he has worked with several Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans and the Association, leading regional health plans, specialty carve-outs, and retail pharmacy. The scope of his work in managed care includes design and implementation of customer care, marketing, medical management, information technology, and operational effectiveness strategies. Dr. Silverstein also works with life science companies helping them develop and commercialize new therapies. He has also been integrally involved in many of the most prominent mergers in the health care field including health services and biopharmaceuticals.
Dr. Silverstein joined BCG in 1986. He was elected vice president in 1992 and senior partner in 2000. He assumed leadership of the global health care practice in 2006 after 7 years leading the America’s health care practice. His academic background includes both business and medicine. He holds an MD from the Yale University School of Medicine and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is board-certified in internal medicine, having completed a residency at Boston’ Beth Israel Hospital, a major Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. Before joining BCG he worked as a physician in private and corporate practice and as a senior scientist and project manager at the Health Data Institute. He earned a BA summa cum laude in economics and natural sciences from the University of Pennsylvania.
