Dr. Andrus has more 20 years of experience of working in primary care and immunization programs. From July 2003 to April 2006, Dr. Andrus served as Chief, Immunization Unit of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), overseeing all immunization technical assistance to PAHO member countries. In April 2006, Dr. Andrus was appointed Lead Senior Advisor of the Immunization Unit. Dr. Andrus holds Associate Professor faculty appointments at University California San Francisco School of Medicine, and at George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He has published numerous scientific articles in this field of immunization, vaccinology, and polio eradication. Dr. Andrus received the Distinguished Service Medal for his work in the global polio eradication initiative in South-East Asia, the highest award given in the United States Public Health Service. He has also been honored as outstanding alumni of UC Davis for his career contributions to international health. In 2006, Dr. Andrus and the team at PAHO were awarded the President’s Leadership Award from Women in Congress for their work to promote human papillomavirus vaccine to prevent cervical cancer in women.
