Mary Beth Briscoe is Vice President and Chief Financial Officer-UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. Nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report among the top 50 universities in the country, UM’s annual operating budget is in excess of $3.3 billion with an endowment of over $1 billion and research expenditures in excess of$320M. The University of Miami employs over 15,600 faculty and staff and serves over 17,000 students in over11 million square feet of classroom, medical, and office facilities in Florida. Mary Beth provides leadership, oversight, and stewardship for all aspects of the University’s financial resources. The university offices of the Treasurer, Controller, Budget and Planning, Business Services, and Supply Chain Services directly reports to the CFO.
Mary Beth has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare finance in various senior management positions. Before joining the University of Miami, she served as the Chief Financial Officer of UAB University Hospital and UAB Medicine Clinical Operations. Prior to her role at UAB, she served as Chief Financial Officer for Eastern Health System, Inc. in Birmingham, Alabama. Mary Beth is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Fellow of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (FHFMA), and a Fellow of The American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). She has also served Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) in national and state roles including National Secretary, Chairman Elect and as National Chairman. She presently serves as Chair-National AMC-CFO Council, a member of the Value Project Advisory Council and National Thought Leadership, and serves on the Financial Interest Planning Council for America’s Essential Hospitals. She has authored articles for various industry periodicals including HFM Magazine, and ACHE Magazine. She is an invited speaker by various constituents and professional organizations across the country and abroad to offer perspectives on financial issues and challenges confronting the healthcare industry. At the state and local level, Ms. Briscoe serves on the Board of Visitors of the University of Alabama and is a graduate member of Leadership Birmingham.
Mary Beth received her B.S. in Accounting from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
