World Congress Webinars present Debate: What Patent Troll Problem? A $29 Billion “Business” and Counting on Tuesday, February 12th, 2013 at 1 pm EST.
According to the FTC, patent trolls have brought the majority of the patent lawsuits in the US, filing 2,530 in 2012. It is said that the ultimate goal of the US patent system is to promote the progress of science and technology and as the role of patent trolls comes under increased scrutiny, strong views have emerged on both sides of the debate.
How do patent trolls use litigation to stifle the goals of our patent system? How would imposing regulations limit the ability of small entrepreneurial inventors from advancing with their innovative efforts and benefiting from their work in the long-term? Professor Michael Meurer of Boston University School of Law will debate a leading voice on these questions and others the industry continues to ask.
Debate points also include:
- Are Patent Trolls manipulating the judicial system by setting royalty demands well below litigation costs or just implementing a smart business strategy?
- Are Patent Trolls the bullies or protectors of the small scale inventor?
- Trolling Efficiencies vs. Trolling Damages
- Application of antitrust laws on company/PAE relationships
- Where is the transparency?
