The first U.S. biosimilars are expected to come to market in the next year, and Dr Sarfaraz Niazi hopes his drug will be one of them. Dr. Niazi's company Therapeutic Proteins International is working on a daily injection that boosts patients' white blood cells during chemotherapy and he is making it more affordable by an innovative method of manufacturing.

With several biosimilars applications filed and the FDA in review of others, there is no better time than now to convene some of the most prominent companies and executives in the industry. There are many questions surrounding how to successfully commercialize biosimilars products in the U.S. Unsettled regulatory issues such as naming of the drugs, extrapolation of indications, and interchangeability have yet to be addressed.
