Brian Melanson is the Director of Distribution & Ancillary Strategy for Premera Blue Cross located near Seattle, Washington. He leads a team that is responsible for Premera’s internal sales compensation, external producer commission, channel strategies (existing and emerging), exchange influence/sales positioning and ancillary business development. Brian also leads a national sales strategy group amongst several Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans that is focused on enhancing collaboration to bring innovation to
the health insurance system, and he is invited to speak with senior executive groups about the future of
the industry on a frequent basis.
Prior to joining Premera, Brian was a Vice President with Digital Insurance where he led a sales and marketing team focused on providing outsourcing solutions to the largest brokerages and with perpetuation planning to smaller and mid-sized brokerages that lead to buyout solutions throughout a
19-state region. In this role, Brian evaluated over 400 broker business models, and continues to use this knowledge to assist broker partners in optimizing their businesses as value-added partners today. Brian also spent time in group health insurance sales and sales management roles at Humana and Destiny Health.
Prior to entering the insurance industry, Brian held a role as the President & General Manager of a women’s magazine focused on the high-end shoe fanatic that he turned around and sold to an investor group during a turbulent Post-9/11 business climate for the industry. Brian also served as a founding member of a software and consulting company focused on helping businesses with their strategy execution with responsibilities in product development and sales.
Brian earned his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising and public relations from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.
