FastFive – October 2017
Taya Paige, HMCC
Business Development Manager
1. What story in our industry impacted you the most in 2016/2017 and why?
There has been so much devastation across the country in 2017. The story of resiliency and determination to continue to plan meetings, hold meetings and keep traveling and leading the charge to be resilient no matter the circumstance is inspiring. If planners (and CEOs) cancel a meeting, that means that nobody travels which makes a bad situation in a destination even worse for the economy and the spirit of all involved. The key is to mitigate the risk, plan accordingly and not to let terrorists, psychopaths or even mother nature get in the way of bringing people together whenever feasibly possible. It’s the many individual stories of humanity, compassion, courage and hope that has impacted me the most.
2. What advice would you give your younger self?
Listen to your gut, do not make decisions based on fear, learn as many languages as you can when you’re young and don’t be shy to speak them and sound silly, take classes and learn at all stages of life, when a once in a lifetime meaningful opportunity comes up don’t let anything get in the way of being there and present in the moment.
3. What’s your guilty pleasure?
Baked rigatoni with extra freshly grated parmesan cheese and freshly baked bread and/or dark chocolate truffles
4. What does your current “just get it done” playlist look like?
Abba, Rolling Stones, sprinkled with some Natalie Cole and Frank Sinatra, winding down with Atlanta Rhythm Section and Norah Jones and finishing off with a kick of Donna Summers.
5. What’s your favorite city and why?
London – a run through Hyde Park, royalty, rich history, fashion, theater, museums, castles, Harrods Food Court, Pubs, amazing architecture, an international buzz and everlasting resilience.
