FastFive – October 2017
JUDITH BENAROCHE JOHNSON, CMP, HMCC
1. What was your favorite professional achievement of 2016/2017?
Having stepped away from owning a company and transitioning into teaching and speaking has been quite rewarding. I’m thrilled that you may now earn a degree in meetings and events and I hope I am impacting our future leaders.
2. What story in our industry impacted you the most in 2016/2017 and why?
The stories that impacted me most are the ones where cities rebounded from tragedy; whether it was floods, tragic events, acts of terrorism, etc. The joy in seeing how people choose to help and come together. Where we used to suggest an emergency response plan, we now know that this may be the most important aspect of meeting planning.
3. Who was a mentor for you and what is a bit of their advice/instruction you often refer to?
My sister was a top corporate executive for her entire career and always encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and take on more challenges. Additionally, advice that I would encourage all to heed is to pay yourself first (no matter how small) as your savings add up and provide a cushion for unexpected opportunities.
4. What are your top 3 favorite cities to visit and why?
Tel Aviv-It is such a modern city, architectually beautiful, sophisticated and all developed in less than 70 years; Capetown, a beautiful city, so much to do, wonderful people, great hotels and restaurants; Prague, a terrific walking city, friendly people, great restaurants and so much history! But, no matter where I go, nothing feels as good as home!
